Alipay Tap! Hits 200M Users in Record Time 🤯

Hey Payments Fanatic!
QR codes are sooo 2020. In China, it’s all about the tap.
Alipay’s Tap! feature has exploded to 200 million users 🤯 since launching just last summer. For context: it crossed the 100M mark in April — so yeah, that’s another 100M onboarded in just five months.
The pitch? No more fumbling with apps or scanning codes. Just unlock your phone, tap a merchant terminal (or an Alipay Tag), and boom — you’re in.
It’s now the friction-free gateway into Alipay’s monster ecosystem: 1B consumers + 80M merchants. And here’s the kicker — when given the choice, 80% of Alipay users already prefer Tap! over scanning.
China’s payments game keeps leveling up, and Tap! Looks like the new default.
