🇦🇺 PayPal Goes Down Under with Fastlane Checkout

Hi Payments Fanatic,
It’s been years (last time I was in Australia was even before the pandemic — can you believe how fast time is flying?) since I was last down under, and I can’t wait to get back. The FinTech scene in Australia has been buzzing, and this week, PayPal added more fuel to the fire.
They just rolled out Fastlane, a guest checkout feature built to tackle one of e-commerce’s biggest headaches: abandoned carts.
If you’ve ever clicked away mid-checkout because it felt like writing a novel instead of buying a laptop… you’re not alone. According to PayPal’s latest eCommerce Index, 41% of Aussie shoppers have done exactly that.
Fastlane flips the script: recognise the shopper’s email, send a one-time code, and boom—payment and shipping details are pre-filled. One click and you’re done. Early trials show a 51% lift in conversions for merchants and checkout times cut by more than a third.
General rollout comes in October, but the message is clear: frictionless checkout isn’t just a “nice to have” anymore—it’s becoming the standard.
See you on Monday!
Cheers,
