Visa Pushes Agentic Commerce Forward with Nuvei and BBVA
Hey Payments Fanatic!
Visa took two important steps toward agentic commerce this week.
Together with Nuvei, it completed a live AI agent purchase on Visa rails, allowing a merchant's AI agent to discover, authorize, and complete a payment without leaving the shopping experience. Separately, BBVA successfully tested its first AI agent-initiated payment using Visa's infrastructure, showing that these transactions can work within today's banking and regulatory frameworks.
Taken together, the announcements show where payments are heading.
The conversation is no longer about whether AI will be involved in commerce. It's becoming about how payment networks, banks, and merchants build the infrastructure that allows AI agents to transact securely on behalf of consumers.
And if you're interested in where payments are evolving next, keep scrolling for a fascinating conversation with Triple-A founder Eric Barbier on why stablecoins are becoming the infrastructure behind global payments.
See what else is shaping Payments. 👇 See you on Monday!
Cheers,
